Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Every day in the UK, 10 children and young people will receive the devastating news that they have cancer. Of those 10, two will not survive.

Of those that survive, many will have long-term side-effects that may significantly impact their lives forever.

This year Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is highlighting the importance of research in creating better futures for children with cancer.

In 1977 childhood cancer survival rates were around 2 in 10. Fast-forward to today and survival rates are around 8 in 10. This amazing progress is driven by research.

It has led no only to more effective treatments, but kinder treatments that have fewer harsh side effects and long-term effects (also known as late effects).

There are many charities involved with childhood cancer, please type 'childhood cancer awareness month' into your chosen search engine and you can see what you can do to help drive research.
