Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2024
Eating Disorders Awareness Week is 26th February to 3rd March.
This year they are focusing on Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)
ARFID is a little known and often misunderstood condition that can have a serious impact on health if left untreated.
People with ARFID avoid certain foods or types of food, restrict the amount they eat, or both. Beliefs about weight or body shape are not reasons why someone may develop ARFID.
Possible reasons include:
- negative feelings over the smell, taste or texture of some foods
- a response to a past experience with food that was upsetting, such as chocking or being sick after eating something
- not feeling hungry or just a lack or interest in eating.
